Building Sciences 1
In this project, we are given a chance to visit some of the green buildings in Singapore. We are divided in to several groups of 6 and require to do research about the green buildings. The green building that we have chosen is the National Library of Singapore.
The building designed by T.R.Hamzah & Ken Yeang consists of two 16-storey blocks, with three basements. The blocks are linked by skybridges on every floor. From the upper floor, it has a panoramic view of the island of Singapore, outlying islands, and also neighbouring countries such as our country - Malaysia and Indonesia. There are also many gardens in the building but only two are opened to the public. They offer a good view and greens area to people enjoy while reading.
Analysis Board
Reflection: I have learned about designing a building is not about the form and concept, building environment is also one of the critical point in each building. Design a building that will not destroy the environment but to help the environment is important. I have also learned about some basic knowledge of National Library Singapore and how to design a building that provide good ventilation , sun shading, wind direction and so on.
