Community Service Intiative
Community Service Intiative
The community-based services in the CSI module for SABD are to expose students to the real-community living in real-life situation. We are required to work together as a team for architectural, culture, and environmental enhancing activities in the communities of different socio-economic status and social groups. There several themes to be chosen to serve the community, ours are to serve the homeless in the selected site. Our site is located at Jalan Petaling which mean after we design, it have to placed at the site in real. Our design idea basically is a hammock, because we think that homeless most importantly is finding a place to sleep. However, hammock is too expensive in market price, then we use simple and recycled materials that can be found easily in site so that the homeless can learn by themself to make themself as their own property.
The category chosen is self-sustaining community.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1.Develop relevant communication skills for collaborative work with community/society.and/or to work in a career that will make contributions to society.2.Develop a holistic awareness of the variety of problems (e.g. the environment, poverty, social discrimination) that call for action; critically analyze how such problems should be approached and how to solve them scientifically.3.Apply information management skills and strengthen their lifelong academic learning.4.Develop in themselves a strong sense of social responsibility and be able to portray leadership qualities and being able to work effectively as a team.
Proposal 1
Final Proposal
Reflection:
Through this project, we have learnt to exposed to the real world installation and have to think a lot more critically to solve an issue. We have solve the placement of our design to everywhere if possible to fit our concept and idea. I find that this assignments is quite related to the architecture world as architect's main job is to solve issue. It is good to know about how to serve the community with our architectural skill.

Food and Culture
Project 1: Writing Short Research Proposal
In project 1, we are required to research what kind of proposal we gonna do to suit any site that to be chosen, we are not allowed to selected some of the specific topic because it will retrict in just several conditions. After we comfirm what we gonna research, it will link to our project 2 and also final project, so project 1 is the first and also the most important stage to begin and continue to the following projects.
Before going to site, students were to have a imagination site and base on that site, develop a proposal according to the following theme:
A) Food ingredients: Architectural space and place for the act of gathering ingredient for food preparation (wet market, farmers market, supermarkets ,mobile markets)
B) Food preparation: Architectural space and place making that provided the act of preparing food; washing, cutting and cooking (kitchen, back lane open space)
C) Food consummation: Architectural space and place for the act of eating food (indoor dining, alfresco dining, formal and informal dining, religious dining/food offering)
I choose Food Ingredients as my topic which is the method of storage to each type of ingredients. I think is quite interesting because to know how people store different kind of ingredients before the food preparation is very important, it affect the taste of the complete food dishes if the ingredients are not stored properly.
Project 2 : Experience & Capture
After project 1, our tutor have selected the site for us and it is located in Pudu - Kuala Lumpur. In Project 2, we are require to group of 4 membersstudy the chosen site and produce a video about it. Before visiting the site - Pudu. During the site visit, our tutor had briefed us about the zones that we should study and what we should do. We went back to site several times after the first visit to get more informations and picture & videos about the site. After that, we divide each task to each of our member, which are video editing, photoshop, narration and storyline and concept.Project 3: Interpretation & Analysis
In final project, we are required to conclude what we have done in project 1 and project 2. This is individual project same as project 1. We have to produce one A2 board that what we have research so far. The A2 board can be formed in any kind of format such as photobook or magazine. For mine, I design it as newspaper format.
Reflection:
During Food and Culture, I have learnt about how the culture affect the surrounding such as food, environment and architecture. I also realized that each things are linked together with reason, there are not individual. The important of the space can affect the function of the facility and the quality. It is very important to concern each space with its functionality.

Design Studio 5 Final Project : Community library
Design Studio 5
Final Project: Community library
In final project, we are required to choose a site from what we have analysised in the first project. I choose site B which located at the street of Jalan Petaling. Students will concentrate on designing a community library within an urban infill site. The design of the building is to consist of appropriate architectural responses that address the aspects of the urban street context and user behavioural patterns as discerned and analysed in the Preliminary Studies. Apart from developing a narrative on architectural strategy in response to the relevant questions pertaining to community and its context.
Reflection:
After the final project, I have learnt the importance of urban context in relation to building design and the application of legislative elements in building. Besides, the importance of the law and regulation in designing a building such as community library can affect the design the form and also the accessibility of the building. The beauty of design is not just based on the form our front and back elevation, but the workable and the function of each space itself.

Project1 :Preliminary Studies
For this project, we are required to do site analysis and produce tangible and intangible data into presentation within our own tutorial group. We have to site visit and site study at our selected sites located at one of the main road which is Jalan sultan between two selected site. The two selected are located in two street, there are Site A in Jalan H.S. Lee and Site B in Jalan Petaling. Besides, we are also required to do precedent studies based on the community libraries around the world. The aim of this project is to focus on urban study in order to find opportunities to promote the presence of community library in relevent context. Our site study would basically need to focus on the urban form, urban context and also the existing communities surrounding our site because we will have to design our final project which is community library to fit in to the site context.
The objectives of the project are as follow :
1. To have an overview on the formation of cities and introduce basic concepts of urban design in relation to architectural design.
2. To introduce and implement basic methodologies of urban studies.
3. To investigate the role of community libraries in traditional and contemporary urban societies.
4. To examine various examples and architectural responses for urban infills.
Design Studio 5 Project1 :Preliminary Studies from Alfred Tan
Reflection:
In this project, we are able to analysis the urban site base on the evidences and studies on the selected site so that the data will help us in developing the programs for our community library. Through this study, we exposed to the importance of urban context and the relationship between each building and architecture style. Besides, the precedent studies is so important that it will guide us to some law and regulation of service such as fire staircase to help us in designing our community library.

THEORY OF URBANISM AND ARCHITECTURE
THEORY OF URBANISM AND ARCHITECTURE
PROJECT 1 PART 1 : LIFE BETWEEN BUILDING , USING PUBLIC SPACE
PROJECT 1 PART 2 : COMPARATIVE ANALYTIC ESSAY
In part 2, we are required to write an essay to compare our site that is chosen in our Design Studio project which is Jalan Sultan. We have to compare it with Theory of Jahn Gehl and contact point either in similarity or contrast between each street.
PROJECT 2 : SYSNOSIS ESSAY
In project 2 , we are require to write 4 sysnosis essay due to the selected article. We have to come out with our own feedback whether to agree the content of article and write an sysnosis essay of it.REFLECTION:
Through this project, I am able to get the basic knowledge of the theoretical issues related to my design. Through the study of architecture and urbanism and its related studies, I have learned about the importance of theory in architecture and urbanism. In addition, I had learnt how to relate architectural and urban by theoretical information to my design strategies and concept.
