Architecture v Comics - The Visual Narrative

Project 1 -Building Narrative 

In this project, we are required to make a 2 pieces of A3 size comics panel board. This is individual project,we have to find a building and give a story on it. Then we have to give a comics style of narrative on that story.

Project 2 - Architecture of Comics

Project 2 is a group project, we are group of 3 member to make 8 pieces of A3 board but convert it into A5 size presentation. The project is about using comics style to talk about Architecture no matter master architect or popular building. Our project story is about a comics character from 2 dimensional world jump out to 3 dimensional world and then evacuate to our real world.

Reflection:

 In this module subject, I realized Architecture presentation actually can be more interesting and fun by using comics style. It will help client or people to understand your design better.

Project 1 - Application of Building Service

In Project 1, we are introduced four types of important building services that are provided in residential building. Those four types of services are water supply, drainage and storm water, sewerage and eletrical supply.  those are basic requirement that must be arrange carefully in each housing. All the regularion for each services are followed by the Uniform Building By Law （UBBL)in malaysia .

We use our sem 2 design studio project which is the retreat house as our case study.We are required to present our understanding by coming out 2 A2 size of presentation board.

i) electrical supply system

ii) cold water and hot water supply system

iii) sewerage and sanitary system

iv) drainage system

Project 2 - Case Study and Documentation of Case Study

In Project 2, we are form a group of 6 ~ 7 members and find a commercial building as our case study. we are required to document the buildings service which are Fire Protection System, Mechanical Ventilation and Air- Conditioning System and Mechanical Transportation system. 

Hence, we document IOI boulevard as our case study. It is located at Bandar Puchong Jaya. It is a seventh Storey commerical building. In the documentation, we analysis the basic requirement of the building and give conclusion of good pratices or bad pratices of each services.

Reflection:

In this module, I have learned about the basic requirement and also the regulation for each services. It is very important to learn Building services because each services serve people who are living or using the certain space in the building and avoid accident or mechanical loss that occured in each buildings.

Project 1 : Contextual Architecture Study

In project 1, we are required to identify one of the popular buildings in Asia and case study on the selected building by doing research, analysis, observation,compare it  and contrast it to the comtemporary architecture.

We are required to design a presentation board to show our understanding on our own case study.

The case study building is yusuhara wooden bridge musuem in Japan. It's is a museum constructed by chinese traditional construction method "dougong" as a bridge to link two of the public buildings together. The architect is kengo kuma, one of the famous architect in Japan.

Project 2 Case Study Paper

In project 2, we are required to identify an issue or topic to a building in asia to study it. Firstly, we have to create a mind map for our case study to focus on a specific topic and give 4~5 questions on itself and answer it through our final report.

The building I have chosen is one of the great architecture in Malaysia which is Telegraph Poles House by WHBC in Langkawi.

Before we gone through the final report session, we have a presentation session as our report brief to show our understanding of the report.

Reflection: 
In this subject, I have learned about the contextual architecture and also vernucular architecture in Malaysia. Designing a building is not just looking at its form but also the passive design on it. How to comfort the user and design the building to adapt the local climate and weather by design passively is very important nowadays. This is what we as an architecture student and become future architect should learn and use it in the future.

Elderly home in PJS 7

In the final project, we are required to design a elderly home in the site which is PJS 7 park.
What is different between elderly home and others architecture design project is elderly is more focus on how to adapt the elderly's needs and more details about building services such as emergency lane for ambulance.
Before proceed to final submission, we have an interim to show our progress.

Reflection:  Elderly home consist a lot of detailings , because it is a home for elderly, every space is design for elderly. Hence, some barrier and leveling like staircase need to be designed carefully. Ramp is one of the choices to represent staircase. Ermergency lane need to be organized in the fatest and the most effeciency way for ambulance and fire engine to enter and leave.

Furniture Design for Elderly

The first project for Semester 4 is more to industrial design. We have to form a group of  2 to 3 to design a furniture for a client who is elderly. Before we started designing the furniture, the whole group of tutorial of us have to visit a elderly home and find our own client.

Hence we found a elderly home call Noble Home Care Elderly Home. This is the elderly that consist about 20 elderly. The amosphere is surroundded by chirpping of birds and full of greens considered as a good environment. At the first visit of elederly home, we find a elderly to interview, to ask about what elderly actually desire to have in elderly home or what kind of trouble they met in elderly home. It will give us some idea of designing a furniture to help elderly more.

This is one of the elderly's room, which consist 2~3 elderly to share one room. In my opinion , it is quite crowded for 3 elderly to share one room and one bathroom.

The second time we visited the elderly home, we started to measure the whole elderly rougly.

The purpose of cading the floor plan is for us to indicate the position of the furniture of each in tutorial group. In addition, it may also give us some ideas of layout planning for out final project which to design a elderly home.

For submission, we have to design a furniture and request to have a A0 size of presentation board.

Reflection:

In this project, it is different from other usual project that we design. We are given a chance to touch a little bit of industrial design and then we realized every each of great design have its own story and concept behind it. It is not just a normal furniture, people design for the people's needs and desire. It is great to have this whole new project and I have learned how the basic skill of requirement of designing a furniture for our own client.

Site visit - PJS 7

In this project, our study site is one of the park in PJS 7. After visiting the PJS 7, we have to measure the whole site and study the site context there. The site context consist the existing structure, social activities, 5 senses, pollutions, SWOT, oppurtunities and proposal of facility.

After that we are required to do our site analysis and come out with a A 0size presentation board.and a 1:200 scale site model.
